Source of Funds for Estate Taxes
- Helped client leverage the low interest rate environment by arranging a private-financing transaction to position a $40,000,000 policy funded with a single premium payment outside the taxable estate. The transaction incurred no gift taxation and the trust owner was able to lock in a long term interest rate of 3.00% on the fund provided to make the premium payment. No future premiums are projected to be required.
- Helped a married couple properly structure a Non-Equity Collateral Assignment Private Split Dollar Arrangement to minimize the annual gift tax consequences of paying the annual premiums on a large face amount life insurance policy in an estate tax free trust.
- A 76 year old widow whose husband had left $30,000,000 of liquid assets in a Marital Trust was able to leverage the investment income of the trust to acquire a specially designed Universal Life policy that is projected to produce and after tax Internal Rate of Return (IRR) at age 92 of over 10.5%.
Private Wealth Transfers
- Helped a client execute a sale of $30,000,000 of low basis rental real estate to a specially designed trust for the benefit of the client’s children. Client recognized no income, capital gains or gift taxation on the transfer.
- Helped a client utilize IRS supported valuation discounts to leverage the client’s existing formal gifting program to transfer stock to the next generation.
- Helped multiple shareholders re-structure their existing buy-sell agreement to realize over $70,000 per year in life savings on insurance premiums while navigating complex transfer for value issues.
Life Insurance Policy Audits
- The Client’s current policy required an annual premium of $69,500 and provided a death benefit of about $3,800,000. We were able to increase the policy death benefit to over $9,200,000 for the same annual premium.
